#1 Stroll past the most beautiful squares
One of the most impressive squares in the city is Place Stanislas, which is not surprising that it has a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This gigantic square is surrounded by black and gold detailed gates. At every corner you will find impressive fountains and in the middle of the square is the statue of King Louis XV. This gives the square a prosperous and luxurious appearance. You will also find special buildings here, such as the opera and the town hall, which are beautifully lightened up at night. Place Stanislas is the connector of the city. From here you can easily go to all the other highlights.
From Place Stanislas you walk through a triumphal arch to the breathtaking Place de la Carrière. It seems as if you go back to the 18th century, in the time of the renaissance. In the past, jousts and tournaments were held on this square. The long wide square is surrounded by two rows of trees and on both sides you are surrounded by beautiful architecture.
Place D’Alliance is also worth a visit. This square has a beautiful fountain in the middle and is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings.
Tip; rent a bike and cross from square to square, so you are sure that you don’t miss anything!
#2 Food halls and vintage markets
In Nancy you will find several markets to browse around. How about the covered food hall with bright green cucumbers and courgettes, the smell of roasted nuts, and the most colorful herbs, from rosemary, oregano and thyme to a pinch of dill. Are you hungry yet? There is something for everyone. If you prefer unique stuff, there are plenty of other nice markets in the most beautiful alleys. For example, stroll past the vintage market, where you can buy special antique items.
#3 Specialty de Nancy
Don’t forget to try one of Nancy’s colorful specialties: macarons. You have them in all types, colors and flavors. Raspberry, coconut, pistachio, mocha, lemon or caramel? We got them at Chocolats de Neuville – 37 Rue Saint-Jean, 54000 Nancy – and they were delicious, so definitely taste it!!
#4 Ultimate enjoying in the city park La Pépinière
The largest city park in Nancy is the fairytale Parc de la Pépinière. It is the perfect place to relax in the middle of nature. You will find beautiful flowers, baroque statues and fountains. Besides relaxing, you can also do many fun activities, such as playing mini golf, walking through the rose garden, attending a concert in the music dome, tasting the best waffles or churros at various stalls, taking the children to the mini fair and yes, even go to the zoo (!), where you can spot monkeys, peacocks, goats and donkeys, how unique?
#5 Let the lights shine
On warm summer evenings between June and September – after a beautiful sunset – a colorful light show can be seen every evening at Place Stanislas. Take a seat on one of the many terraces on the square, order something to eat and drink, and enjoy the free light show “Rendez Vous”, which projects the history of Nancy on the facades of the buildings. Every year a new story projects on the buildings, so that it remains surprising.
